Am I suitable for laser acne treatment?
Acne – whether it’s inflammatory acne or the scarring that is left behind when acne has cleared up – can be a very distressing and common skin concern that can be challenging to treat. Typically, acne develops during puberty and resolves itself as you get older but increasing numbers of men and women are suffering from adult acne into their 40s and 50s, often due to stress and environmental damage. We have a number of acne treatments including laser acne treatment and during your consultation we will carefully assess your skin and advise you on which is the best treatment option. Often, a combination of treatments is required to resolve the problem. Isolaz is a laser treatment that has been approved by the FDA in the US for the treatment of acne. This is a light-based therapy that is minimally invasive, meaning little downtime or discomfort, and capable of producing really dramatic results. Isolaz can be used to treat mild to moderate acne, pustular and comedonal acne and inflammatory acne.
How does laser acne treatment work?
First, a vacuum suction device clears the skin’s pores of any dirt, oils and excess sebum as well as removing any acne-causing bacteria. Then, a device emits a pulse of light energy into the skin to kill any remaining bacteria. The skin appears more radiant and clear and future outbreaks are minimised.
What if I am suffering from acne scarring?
Acne can cause deep damage to the skin and although the body attempts to repair the damage by producing more collagen, the structure and texture of the skin can change dramatically. There are different types of scarring as a result of acne and this can either by hypertropic, where too much collagen has been produced causing a bump or ridge on the skin’s surface, or atrophic where some tissue has been lost and a depression in the skin has been left behind. Colour changes can also occur, where the damaged skin can appear either lighter or darker than the surrounding tissue. Laser acne scarring treatment aims to stimulate further collagen production in the scarred area to improve the appearance of the skin.
What does a laser acne scarring treatment entail?
We offer ResurFX to treat acne scarring. This laser resurfacing treatment can target the uneven texture and colour of the skin that is left as a permanent reminder of acne, but because it is a fractional, non-ablative device, it minimises trauma to the surrounding healthy skin which means much less discomfort and downtime.
What results can I expect from laser acne scarring treatment?
As ResurFX is a non-ablative laser technology, a number of sessions may be required to target acne scarring. It is not usually possible to eradicate scarring completely, but patients are typically very happy with the marked improvement in their skin’s appearance after laser acne scarring treatment.
