What are the advantages of a Macro Fat Graft to alternative aesthetic treatments?
A breast augmentation with breast implants or a buttock lift, using implants, are very popular, effective and predictable methods to enhance the body but many patients are reluctant to undergo invasive surgery, performed under a general anaesthetic, which entails a foreign body inserted in the body. As a Macro Fat Graft uses the patient’s own fat there is much less chance of a reaction. The other significant advantage of the Macro Fat Graft is that it is possible to improve contours elsewhere on the body.
What results can I expect from a Macro Fat Graft?
The Macro Fat Graft can restore or add volume to the body while further improve the appearance of the body by removing stubborn pockets of fat elsewhere on the body. Results are immediate and should last for many years although it is important to maintain a steady weight as further weight fluctuations could affect your results.
Are there any potential risks to a Macro Fat Graft?
There will be some discomfort in both the harvest area and where the fat has been transplanted to and we advise you wear a compression garment for a few weeks after surgery. There will also be bruising and swelling. Potential risks include infection, an accumulation of blood and fluid in the harvest area and asymmetry which may require a revision procedure. However, complications are usually rare.
What does a Macro Fat Graft procedure entail?
A Macro Fat Graft is often described as a two-in-one procedure; first we harvest a sufficient amount of fat from the donor area which has been identified during your consultation – typically this is the thighs, flanks or abdomen. The fat is then purified to produce the fat graft which is injected into the breasts, buttocks or elsewhere. Over the next few weeks, the fat cells integrate into the breasts and buttocks; there will be a loss of some volume but the layering technique we use and our many years’ expertise in fat grafting procedures means that we can achieve a very predictable volumisation.
Am I suitable for a Macro Fat Graft?
A Macro Fat Graft to augment the breasts or buttocks is a minimally invasive procedure which can subtly enhance and add volume. Whether you’ve recently lost weight or always felt lacking in volume, then fat transfer can be an ideal solution, particularly if you’re suffering from stubborn pockets of fat elsewhere on the body. Pregnancy and breast feeding can have a significant impact on the volume in the upper pole of the breasts and a Macro Fat Graft can be a fantastic procedure to restore a more full, rounded contour to the cleavage. A Macro Fat Graft will produce a long-term improvement to the body’s contours, but it is not possible to achieve the same volume increase that you can with an implant so it’s best suited to patients that do not want a significant increase in size.
Macro fat graft
Macro fat grafting is the transfer of fat from one region to another using liposuction to harvest the fat which is then reinjected into a different area. It is commonly used to enhance breast volume or buttock volume and unlike using silicone implants once the fat graft has taken (see the FAQ section for more details) it will look, feel and behave naturally. Additionally because the fat is only you it won’t need changing nor will it ripple or dislodge with the passage of time.
