What can I expect during a Botox treatment?
Using a very fine needle, we inject tiny amounts of Botox into the treatment area. The botulinum toxin blocks the impulse from the nerve which instructs the facial muscles from contracting and relaxing. This reduces the wrinkles that form in the overlying skin. Results aren’t instantaneous, as Botox can take between three to five days to take effect. In terms of longevity, every patient responds differently and it depends where the Botox has been injected, but results can last from between three to six months, with some patients not requiring a repeat procedure for nine months to a year.
Is there anything I need to do to prepare for a Botox treatment?
Most patients are suitable candidates for a Botox treatment, but during your consultation we will ask certain questions to ensure it will be safe. We will check whether you have certain medical conditions or taking specific medications that could prohibit you from having Botox. We do not recommend that you have Botox if you’re pregnant or breast feeding. We advise you to stop taking any blood thinning medication prior to your procedure to reduce any potential bruising.
Do Botox injections hurt?
Typically, we do not need to use any sedation or local anaesthetic to numb the treatment area as there is minimal discomfort. However, this can be discussed with you at your Botox consultation.
What results can I expect from a Botox treatment?
Patients are often concerned that a Botox treatment means they will be left with a ‘frozen face’ that isn’t capable of normal expressions. Our Botox practitioners are skilled at softening the appearance of dynamic wrinkles without making the face appear stiff or unnatural.
Is it safe to have a repeat Botox treatment?
Botox has undergone many clinical trials since it was approved for aesthetic use in the treatment of crow’s feet and frown lines. It has an excellent safety record and it is perfectly safe to have a repeat Botox treatment when the results start to wear off. However, choosing an experienced and highly qualified practitioner is a must to ensure you receive the best possible results.
Botox has become the most popular aesthetic treatment in the UK and around the world since the ability of botulinum toxin to treat dynamic wrinkles was first discovered. As well as smoothing the appearance of crow’s feet and frown lines, Botox can be used to soften the jawline, tighten the jowls and provide a subtle lift to the corners of the lips. It can also treat migraines and excessive sweating.
